The competition aims to reframe how ageing and older people are portrayed in Ireland and Northern Ireland and is now open for entries until 1 October, which coincides with International Day for Older Persons.
Under the theme of ‘Working, Learning, and Volunteering in Later Life,’ IPH is seeking images that showcase older adults in various roles, including:
- Working: All forms of work, paid or unpaid.
- Learning: Engaged in lifelong, teaching, or being taught.
- Volunteering: Contributing to society both formally and informally.
The competition will help IPH to build its How We Age image gallery, which is used to promote healthy ageing and broader public health themes and is also available to partner and allied organisations as a free-to-access image resource.

- Older adults teaching or coaching – whether it’s sports, physical activities, arts, cooking, etc.
- Older adults caring for others – such as caring for grandchildren, family members, or loved ones.
