Health and Wellbeing Age Expo 2024
Building on the success of last year, the Clare Older People’s Council and the Clare Age Friendly Programme hosted the Health and Wellbeing Age Expo 2024, during Positive Ageing week, on Thursday 3rd of October in Treacy’s West County Hotel. The very successful Health and Wellbeing Age Expo was attended by up on 600 people and the event showcased the important supports and services available in County Clare that are of particular interest to older people. Based on the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Age Friendly themes the event also included a varied schedule of speakers, taster sessions, tech support and presentations on topical issues and services of relevance to older people.
Clare Age Friendly Strategy 2024 – 2030 – A Collective Ambition
The Clare Age Friendly County Strategy 2024 – 2030 – A Collective Ambition was launched by Cllr. Alan O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council at the Health and Wellbeing Age Expo 2024. Rooted in collaboration and compassion, the Strategy sets out an implementation plan, supported by the Clare Older People’s Council and the Clare Age Friendly Alliance, that aims to ensure that older people in Co Clare can thrive, participate fully in society, and live with dignity and purpose.
Virtual Dementia Tour
The Clare Age Friendly Programme hosted Dementia Awareness training “Virtual Dementia Tour” on October 18th. The training, delivered by Trained2Care, provided an opportunity for attendees to enter the world of the person living with Dementia and to gain an understanding of how simple changes to practice and environment can improve lives of people with dementia. The training was attended by staff of Clare County Council, members of the Clare Older People’s Council and members and staff from the Clare Age Friendly Alliance.
Climate Action Intergenerational Project
Supported by the Clare Creative Arts Fund, the Clare Age Friendly Programme and the Climate Action Team in Clare County Council held an intergenerational climate action workshop on October 10th in the Common Knowledge Centre, Kilfenora. Members of Clare Older People’s Council, Clare Cultural Companions, and Clare Youth Service’s UBU programme participated in the workshop that was hosted and facilitated by Aoife Hammond, Ciara Parsons, and Cian Corcoran from Common Knowledge.
