Now Opening Enrollment for our Semester 2 Program

Audit modules will kick off on January 13th, so be sure to look at what is on offer and register with Grainne if you are interested in undertaking one before then. Here is a link to the list.

The Love of Lifelong Learning Programme will be updated in early January and open for registration on January 27th and modules will start on February 10th.

We are deeply grateful to all the tutors this year for their valuable input and contributions to the programme. We would like to remind AFU participants to refrain from private negotiations with tutors. Also all lectures are two hours long,  with a short comfort break in the middle at the discretion of the tutor. If you have any questions, please get in touch with us at the AFU office.

Upcoming Events

LifeBio in Words and Pictures

The LifeBio in Words and Pictures Exhibition will be launched in Malahide today to a full house. I look forward to meeting the participants and their families who participated in the project over the Summer. Subject to funding, we hope to offer this programme again in the Spring.

Christmas Lunch

The Christmas lunch is fully booked, and we look forward to seeing you at the event, which includes a three-course lunch, mulled wine, and a free raffle. It will take place in the 1838 Restaurant in Albert College, and registration for lunch will take place on the ground floor from 12 noon for a 12.20 start. Please make sure you check in with Grainne or our colleague Bernadette, who will be on hand to welcome and direct you.

Annual Christmas Concert – DCU Campus Choir

Celebrate the season with DCU Campus Choir’s Annual Christmas Concert, featuring Vivaldi’s Gloria with soloists Abbi Temple (soprano) and Sarah Luttrell (mezzo-soprano), accompanied by Alison Thomas on piano. The choir will also perform festive favourites, including a fun audience sing-along. Directed by Christina Whyte, the choir includes current and former staff. After the performance, seasonal refreshments will be served in All Hallows Restaurant.

When: Wednesday, 11th December | 7:30pm – 8:30pm
Where: All Hallows Chapel
Free of Charge : Contributions are welcome towards choir development

Join us for the next DCU Book Club session, with Juliana Adelman

Juliana Adelman, author and Assistant Professor of History at DCU’s School of History and Geography, will discuss her captivating novel The Grateful Water in conversation with DCU Writer in Residence Aingeala Flannery. Blending history, mystery, and human drama, the novel is set in 1860s Dublin. It follows butcher Denis Doyle and Detective Martin Peakin as they investigate a chilling case of infanticide by the River Liffey. To add to the festive spirit, Christmas refreshments will be served. This event is presented by the DCU Cultural Arts Office in partnership with DCU Library.

When: Thursday, 12th December 2024 | Lunchtime 1pm – 2pm
Where: Belvedere Library, St Patricks campus
Register: Register on Eventbrite
Book Club dates: Visit the DCU Arts & Culture Website

2025 Activities

Several Spanish universities will be visiting with groups in Spring 2025. We are also hosting a delegation from Yonsei University, South Korea, which hosted me for the past week.

We will be participating in the 50+ Show on March 13/14th and are seeking volunteers to host our stand with us over the two days. A call for volunteers will go out in early February.

A new two-year Erasmus consortium project, “Memorable,” funded by the EU, is set to launch in Sofia, Bulgaria, in early January. This project builds on the learnings from the Culture on Prescription Project and will involve a five-part consortium representing the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Ireland, and Bulgaria.

We are delighted to welcome a new staff member from Canada who will join us in early January.

Christmas Office Hours

The office will close for Christmas from December 18th and will reopen on January 4th.
