Tackling Climate Change is Not Just for the Young
An excellent six step Climate Action Course aimed at the over 60’s in Roscommon has just finished. The course facilitator, Jacinta Barrins who is a retired UN official ran this course in collaboration with the Age Friendly and Climate Action units of Roscommon County Council and Roscommon Tidy Towns.

We had twenty seven registered for this course, they were all intrigued from the outset about the information they were being given and were hugely interested in learning ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

Roscommon’s Climate Enthusiasts!
The final session kicked off with the participants revealing the actions they had chosen and the difference these actions had made to the environment and to themselves personally. Showing the benefit to our Planet because of such actions e.g. reducing meat consumption, changing to LED lighting, turning down heating thermometers was very thought provoking. Everyone present had made significant changes and are determined to keep them up.

The active engagement and participation of all who attended this six step programme was a joy to behold, this is only the beginning for them! This is a very powerful demographic within our society, we expect a high impact from the delivery of this very informative programme.
Roscommon Age Friendly Hospital Steering Group Visits Monaghan Age Friendly Hospital
Members of Roscommon Age Friendly Hospital’s Steering Group visited Monaghan Age Friendly Hospital on Monday 31st March 2025.

We were greeted by Lynda McGorry, Business Manager, Monaghan Hospital who was one of the main people involved in Monaghan achieving their Age Friendly accreditation. She gave a very informative slide presentation on their journey, this was followed by a tour of the hospital, inside and outside.

A big thank you from Roscommon to Lynda McGorry for her warm welcome, the wealth of information she shared with us and the lovely tea & scones and lunch that was provided! Thanks also to Barry Eaton and Linda Lennon from the Age Friendly Team in Monaghan County Council who joined us on the day.
