Cavan Older People’s Council hosted their AGM coupled with an Information Roadshow at the Lavey Inn, Dublin Road, Cavan on Wednesday 1st October 2025 – the event coincided with ‘International Day of Older Persons’. The event was open to older people from across the county and was free to attend.

The AGM was opened by Leas Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council Cllr Winston Bennett followed by an address from joint chair of Cavan Older People’s Council Carole Beattie.  The large audience heard presentations on various topics including both the Local and National Age Friendly Programmes, Cavan Sports Partnership activities and took part in a Chair Yoga session.

Members of Cavan Older People’s Council Executive Committee (Brian McDermott, Elizabeth Coyle, Ann O’Donoghue, Ann McKiernan and Mary Farrell) performed a drama piece which was written by Bob Gilbert, Cavan’s Age Friendly Ambassador which highlighted the issue of elder abuse in its various forms.  This was followed by a discussion with audience members on the issues raised.  The HSE Adult Safeguarding lead and An Garda Síochána were in attendance if any attendees wanted to make a report.  The Irish Heart Foundation carried out free blood pressure and pulse checks throughout the event and many attendees availed of this opportunity.

The event concluded with a raffle and a fabulous performance by the Cuan Choir followed by lunch.  A host of local agencies and organisations had information stands at the event to answer queries and give advice on supports and services locally.
