Dementia Understand Together June Update

  • Community Champion Get-Together

Many community champions are working together to make a difference in their communities. In the recent Community Champion Get-together, Fiona Crotty, Tipperary County Council and Age Friendly Programme Manager gave an overview of the many networks and agencies across the counties who can be supportive of the work of local champions. (See her overview HERE)

  • Radio Campaign and Interviews 2024

People with dementia, family members, carers and community champions spoke about their experiences, changes they see in the Irish dementia landscape and the things that make a difference to them in their local dementia inclusive community.

Understand Together would like to thank everyone who participated in this radio campaign. Your stories are reaching people in their local communities. They are inspirational, hopeful and so supportive. You can listen back to the interviews here https://www.understandtogether.ie/lets-talk-dementia/radio-interviews-2024.html

  • Your stories

Understand Together are delighted to let you know that the Let’s Sing Together compilation of songs is now available to view on the South East Community Healthcare You Tube Channel. The idea for Let’s Sing Together came from Mr Brian Toomey from Wexford, who shared this story and resource with them. It was developed in partnership with input from Age Friendly Alliances, Older Persons Councils, and Dementia Café representatives and funded with thanks from National HWB and the Age Friendly Alliance. You can listen to the songs here https://youtu.be/KEFAxePeZ18

If you would to share your stories, planned events and local/national activities in the new poster template across their social media platforms and local networks, please contact . Please try to include the Dementia Inclusive Community Symbol in all of your promotional materials. This helps to strengthen awareness of the symbol and lets people know that you are connected to the national movement.

  • Please share the link to the community champion sign up form

Understand Together would love the network of champions to continue to grow. You might be linking in with local networks who have not signed up to the campaign, yet. It would be great if you could share the link to their sign-up form with them.
