Old Cork Suburb House to be Knocked for 24 New ‘right-size’ Homes

Age Friendly Ireland | Local | Cork City, Cork County

An old former family home on Cork’s southside will be knocked to make way for the Council’s latest ‘rize-sizing’ development. The sheltered housing will be for older people wanting a smaller, more manageable home.

At the Cooney’s Lane site, an existing home will be demolished, and 24 new homes will be built, comprising two 1-bedroom houses, sixteen 1-bedroom apartments, and six 2-bedroom apartments. The plans also allow for 11 parking spaces and two shared garden spaces.

The new development will be within a few minutes’ walk of the Grange neighbourhood centre, Supervalu, Aldi, and a variety of other shops. It is served by an existing bus route connecting to the city centre and Douglas, and is near the South Ring Road. It has been modelled on other successful schemes around the city.
