OPC Convention 9th/10th May Kilkenny
Longford Older Person’s Council Chairperson Kitty Burkhill and Longford Age Friendly Co-ordinator Paula Mulry were delighted to be among the 200 older people from across Ireland who gathered for the Age Friendly Ireland National Older People’s Councils (OPC) Convention held last week in Kilkenny.
The programme included panel discussions, workshops, site visits in the city including to the new Mayfair Library and the First Age Friendly Train Station. There was also an opportunity for the delegates to network and share learnings on a variety of issues including concerns surrounding online banking, a cashless society, and automated customer service helplines; offering potential solutions to bridge this divide. Many thanks to the Age Friendly Ireland Shared Service Team for organising the Convention and to the Age Friendly Team and local authority colleagues in Kilkenny County Council for hosting a wonderful event and for the really warm Kilkenny welcome. We are looking forward to next year’s OPC Convention already.

Bealtaine Programme Update
Our Bealtaine Programme continued this week with Crochet Classes with Jacinta Baxter and Cookery Demonstrations in a number of our library branches with Fiona Egan of Cloghan Farm and Cookery School where Fiona showed attendees how to prepare healthy and easy to make meals, reducing food waster but not the taste! We are looking forward to taking to the floor next week with our Line Dancing Taster Classes!
