
The annual Bealtaine Festival, which celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year provides older people opportunities to participate in the arts and creativity during the month of May. This year’s programme promises to be an engaging celebration of music, arts, creativity and well-being, embodying this year’s Bealtaine Festival theme, Lust for Life.
Longford Age Friendly Bealtaine Programme will commence with the second annual Bealtaine Concert of song and dance hosted by Songbirds and Friends in Ballymahon Library on Thursday 1st May from 6.30-8pm. The musical theme will continue with Harp Duets performing in Granard Library on Fri 2nd May at 7pm with two other performances scheduled later in the month in Edgeworthstown Library on 16th May and Longford Library on 30th May at 2pm.
Backstage Theatre, in partnership with Longford Age Friendly Programme are hosting “Tender Mercies” by Colette Cullen and starring Fair City’s Sorcha Furlong in Backstage on May 15th at 8pm and Backstage will also co -host Miss Mary by Kristyn Fontanella which traces the footsteps of the travelling dance masters of Ireland on Friday 30th May in Edgeworthstown Library at 2pm.
Nutrition and health topics are included in this year’s programme with Nutrition for Falls Prevention and Bone Health talk in Longford Library on 27th Mat at 11 am and Brain Health talks will be delivered by Pauline Lee ,HSE in various library branches during the month.
Creativity through nature will be explored through Flower Arranging demonstrations with Florist Mary Holmes in Drumlish and Lanesboro Libraries.
Longford and Ballymahon Libraries will also be showing Classic Movies during the month of May and our very popular Community mornings will continue weekly in Longford Library. There is something for everyone in this year’s 30th Anniversary celebration of creativity as we age. We encourage everyone to attend our events. They are FREE.
