Arklow Age Friendly Business Programme Launch

Dragons Den star Gavin Duffy with some of the 41 business owners who attended the launch of the Arklow Age friendly business programme.

The programme lets people know that their custom is valued and that the businesses are committed to serving them.  Each business that signs up commits to three actions, for example adjusting music, clearer signage, provide seating or offering smaller portions.

Older people are a diverse group: one in three is affected by hearing loss, almost two-thirds wear glasses or lenses and a significant number have mobility issues. Knowing this and making small adjustments in stores makes a big difference.

Speaking at the launch, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr Irene Winters,  said that the national Age Friendly programme endeavoured to make age friendly a way of life with older people continuing to be at the heart of the initiative.
