The Kerry Older People’s Council Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday the 26th of June in the Rose Hotel Tralee. A new Older People’s Council Executive was voted in at the AGM, with representation from all 5 Municipal Districts in Kerry. At a further meeting to be held in September, it was agreed that the representation would be reviewed, and gaps identified.
This was the first AGM following the joint work programme with Kerry Public Participation Network where registered groups representing older people have become part of the PPN structure as an Over 55s Linkage Group.
As part of the AGM, a consultation was held with those present to identify key challenges for over 55s in Co Kerry. This was a very useful discussion.
Ciara Farrell, Age Friendly Regional Programme Manager was in attendance and Ciara spoke about the importance of the voice of older people in the Age Friendly Programme.
The meeting also paid tribute to outgoing Chairperson, Maura Fitzgerald who has been a valuable member of the Older Peoples Council and the Age Friendly Steering Group in Kerry.
