Galway City Council’s proposed ‘’Cupán ceoil Tea Dances’’ has been selected for grant funding under the Creativity in Older Scheme 2023. Healthy Galway City, working in partnership with Galway City Partnership, Cope Galway and Galway Contact, will coordinate a programme of social and cultural activities to promote health and wellbeing in older adults. The programme includes elements such as an inclusive outing to a beautiful Irish heritage site, crafting, food and drink, storytelling, live music, dancing, and friendship.

The project aims to reduce the impact of isolation and loneliness on older adults living in Galway City. The project was launched in June 2023 with a group trip to Bunratty Castle in Limerick. Around 70 older adults from Westside, Ballinfoile, Ballybane and Galway City Centre travelled by bus to the beautiful heritage site. Following tea, coffee and scones upon arrival, the group enjoyed a stroll through the Castle and Folk Park. They enjoyed lunch in the Blarney Woolen Mills before a live music and singing session with musician Martina.  Participants played music, sang classic favourites, and danced before returning home. The trip was very successful and a great start to what promises to be an exciting project.
