On Monday 10th March 2025 representatives from Cavan Older People’s Council Executive Committee and Cavan Age Friendly programme visited the Wayfinding Centre in Glasnevin. The Wayfinding Centre is an innovative, multi-functional centre which is driven by the need to make transport accessible for everyone. The Wayfinding Centre provides a safe indoor environment which replicates the real-world experience of using public transport including lighting, acoustics, hazards and the built environment that surrounds public transport.

The group received a very informative presentation on the Wayfinding Centre and they in turn shared information on Age Friendly initiatives and the work that Age Friendly programmes and Older People’s Councils do with staff in the centre. They then had a tour of the centre and had the opportunity to try out different modes of public transport including buses, the Dart and Luas and a plane (but didn’t get to fly anywhere!).
The experience further highlighted to everyone the challenges which are associated with various disabilities. It was great to see that there is now a space where all transport stakeholders can come together to bring unique perspectives to collaborate, co-create solutions, co-design foundations, develop views and test theories to ultimately ensure equity and inclusion are forefront of any transport development agenda.
The Wayfinding Centre is a part of Vision Ireland Services which is a registered charity. Everyone who went on the trip had a great day.
