Age Friendly Louth were delighted to hold their first Age Friendly event of 2025.
The event took place in the Gallery Meeting Room, Louth County Council Civic Offices, Fair St, Drogheda. The event was an opportunity for older people in the area to have a gentle introduction to the topic of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
The introduction to AI for beginners included, what AI is, outlined how we are already interfacing with AI in our everyday lives, through our smartphones and through social media. The introduction also outlined some of the benefits associated with AI and discussed some of the challenges around AI.

This followed a presentation by Paula Kelly from TU Dublin School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Paula was accompanied by some of her fellow researchers who gave an overview and introduction to their research projects in the area of AI and showcased some of their current projects.
Sinead McVerry, Age Friendly Program Manager stated that:
“The Co Louth Older People’s Council (OPC) have identified the area of AI as one that older people would like more information on. This event on the 22nd is a gentle introduction to the topic of AI and will also be a chance to discuss current AI projects with researchers from TU Dublin. It will also be an opportunity for people, should they wish, to be part of current and future AI projects with the researchers from Technological University Dublin.
Joe Grogan Chairperson of Louth Older People’s Council (OPC) noted that “We are hearing about AI constantly on the news and in the media. It is important that as older people we keep up to date with new technological development’s particularly AI and see how AI affects and benefits older people in Co Louth.
The event on 22nd January was the first in what is hoped will be a suite of AI workshops/training provided to older people across Co Louth.
