Cork County Older People’s Council is s representative group, established by Cork County Council as part of the development of the Cork Age Friendly County Programme.
The Cork County OPC has an executive with a Chair, Vice Chair and PRO. The committee helps to identify priority areas of need, arise issues of importance and inform and influence the decision making process of Cork County Age Friendly Programme.
Cork County Older People’s Councils are two tier structures that have a wide membership base representing all older people in the community, and an elected Executive Committee. The membership is made up of individual older people and older people’s groups. The Executive Committee members are elected by the full membership every two years.
The key role of members is to:
- Provide the voice of older people to support the Cork County Age Friendly Alliance at strategic level in the delivery of its actions.
- Co-design solutions in response to barriers and challenges facing older people
- Surface , prioritise and communicate national issues relating to policy or practice.
