Offaly County Council is delighted to announce the signing of contracts for the construction of 10 single storey houses designed to Age Friendly and accessibility requirements. The Age Friendly development, known as ‘Beechwood Court’ will be located on Circular Road, Daingean.
The new houses will be arranged in two terraces with paved accessible paths facing onsite parking.
Offaly County Council Chief Executive Anna Marie Delaney stated ‘this development supports our commitment under the Offaly Age Friendly Strategy 2024-2029 to provide appropriate housing options and to increase the number of universally designed units. The houses have been designed to meet NZEB standards (Net Zero Energy Building) utilising air to water, renewable energy, heat pump heating system. They are targeted to achieve an A2 Building Energy Rating (BER).”
The project was designed by the Offaly County Council Housing Team (including an Age Friendly Technical Advisor) in partnership with a design team consisting of SDS Design Engineers for civil and structural works, Hayes Higgins Partnership for mechanical and electrical works and Tobin Consulting for quantity surveyor services. The Main Contractor for the works is Carroll O’Keefe & Co Ltd, with the construction of the new development starting in late June with an anticipated 14-month contract period.
The €3.4 million development is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Social Housing Investment Programme. This new development adjoins Beechwood Drive a recently completed 9-unit social housing development by Offaly County Council.
