On so-called Blue Monday, the Waterford Older People’s Council flipped the script entirely.

We began with a shared breath, grounding ourselves before launching into a powerful “blue sky” planning day filled with energy, ideas and ambition. Through lively discussion, creativity and big thinking, we imagined the year ahead and set clear priorities for what we want to achieve.

Huge thanks to our facilitator, Caroline Brogan, Regional Programme Manager with Age Friendly Ireland, whose warmth, enthusiasm and expert guidance lit up the room and ensured we made the absolute most of the day.

It was living proof that “blue” does not have to mean low spirits. In Waterford, it meant hopeful, bright and full of potential.  Days like this remind us that Age Friendly work across Ireland is driven by the insight, creativity and determination of older people themselves and that when those voices are at the core, real change follows!

And consider this your official notice, Waterford – Waterford Older Peoples Council are coming to you. Throughout 2026, they will be out and about, stepping into community meeting rooms, joining local conversations and ensuring older voices are heard in every corner of Waterford city and county.

If you make the tea, we will supply the tart. Let’s pull up a chair and talk about what matters to older adults in your area.

If you would like to know more about the work of the Waterford Older People’s Council, please get in touch – they would love to hear from you.
