Kilkenny County Council’s Age Friendly team, Older People’s Council (OPC), and Climate Action team are hosting a six-week climate action course in Kilkenny City, specially designed for people aged 55 and over.

Starting on Wednesday, 17th September 2025, the course will take place weekly on Wednesdays from 10:30am to 12:30pm St.Patricks Parish Centre, Loughboy Kilkenny City . It will be facilitated by Jacinta Barrins, who will guide participants through six engaging sessions focused on understanding climate change and exploring practical steps that can be taken. Jacinta Barrins is a retired UN Diplomat and former University of Galway staff member with a lifelong career focused on climate and the environment.

The course offers a relaxed and friendly environment where participants can learn, share ideas, and enjoy a cup of tea while discussing the impact of climate action.

This course is free of charge, but places are limited and early booking is advised.

Course Details

  • Week 1 – Wednesday 17th September

Understanding Basics: Learn basic climate related terms and discover how something as simple as making a cup of tea is connected to climate change.

  • Week 2 – Wednesday 24th September

Changing Behaviour: Discuss the barriers holding us back from taking climate action.

  • Week 3 – Wednesday 1st October

Carbon Footprint: Find out how to measure the environmental impact of your household’s daily activities, such as energy use, transportation, diet and waste.

  • Week 4 – Wednesday 8th October

One Action: Choose ONE action to do to help the planet and get expert support.

  • Week 5 – Wednesday 15th October

Plan: Discuss the barriers that might hold you back from implementing the ONE action.

BREAK 

  • Week 6 – Wednesday 10th December
