Communities:
· Bantry: Members of the Bantry Dementia Alliance, Sarah Cairns & Teresa Bohane, spoke at the 17th International Engaging Dementia Conference on making Bantry a dementia inclusive community.
– The Bantry Alliance is continuing their work locally with dementia awareness training for Transition Year students, Gardai and the fire service. Additional training is scheduled for emergency services, as well as to Older Persons Development workers. A general training session will be available for everyone in the community. – The Bantry Dementia Inclusive Plan, which was developed over the past 18 months, will be officially launched on 3rd June with musical support from the Singing for the Brain group.
· North Cork Dementia Alliance: Have launched Art for Your Brain’, which is a 5-week pilot of an art class for people with dementia. The classes will run over 5 Monday mornings in Adair Hall in Fermoy and will involve one hour of art, facilitated by Niamh Towey, of ‘Healing with Art’, followed by an opportunity to socialise over a cup of tea. ● Mohill ( Leitrim); Following on from Dementia Awareness training, local businesses are joining a short information session followed by a dementia inclusive audit on the premises. An audit has already been carried out in the local enterprise centre. Mohill Library has a stand with a broad range of Dementia Information Leaflets which the community can pick up for free when they need them. There are plans for a dementia inclusive café in the future.
● South Dublin: Tallaght Stadium is actively working to become an agefriendly facility as part of South Dublin County Council’s policy to promote intergenerational solidarity and inclusivity. The stadium is undergoing a four-stage process to achieve age-friendly status, with improvements aimed at increasing customer experience for all visitors, including older people.
● Tipperary: Tipperary Age Friendly will host its annual EXPO in the TUS College Campus, Thurles ( E41PC92) on the 18th of June from 12-3pm. This is a free event showcasing a range of services and supports available to promote positive ageing in Tipperary. For further information contact:
· Wexford: Members of the Memory Assessment Support Teams in Wexford presented to the Young Onset Groups & at the dementia café’s. There are plans for a healthy food made easy programme and dementia inclusive booklet to be developed in the near future. Dementia Awareness training took place for sports clubs, facilities and organisations in May in collaboration with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. This programme is supported by Healthy Wexford through the Healthy Ireland Fund.

Creative Brain Week: The next Creative Brain Week will take place on the week of June 9th 2025 at Trinity College Dublin. A heady mix of World-Leading Neuroscientists, Educationalists, Health Policy Makers, Artists and Innovators exploring the brain and creativity. This year’s theme is “Activating Kindness”. · Boots working together with the Dementia: Understand Together Campaign are hosting three awareness events across the country on the topic of dementia & brain health. The locations will be Cork ( City), Mayo (Castlebar) & Laois (Portlaoise), booking will be through Eventbrite. Further information on these events will be shared separately.
· Parkrun Ireland will be launching their “Your parkrun and dementia” handbook in partnership with the Dementia: Understand Together campaign on June 26th. More information on the handbook will be shared separately.
· Family Carers Ireland is the national charity supporting the 500,000 family carers across the country and carer’s week takes place from 9th to 15th June with a range of in-person and online activities. · National Age Friendly Recognition & Achievement Awards 2025: The Annual National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards showcase age friendly initiatives from around the country that are contributing to making Ireland a great place in which to grow old. Don’t miss out on submitting your application, there are a number of categories.
· Photo Museum Ireland This relaxed free Azure Dementia-Inclusive Tour is a guided experience designed for individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Led by trained facilitators, it offers a gentle introduction to current exhibition, followed by time for tea and conversation in a welcoming, supportive space. There are three 2 hour long tours, Monday 7 July, Monday 15 September & Monday 17 November. You can find more information and the booking link on our website.
