The development of CycleConnects is a Core Action of the Government’s National Sustainable Mobility Policy.

The portal can be accessed at: Cycle Connects

Cycle Connects: Ireland’s Cycle Network, provides a cycle network for every county in the State outside the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). CycleConnects also provides 63 urban networks, for all towns with a population of over 5,000.

The draft CycleConnects network went through a non-statutory public consultation at the end of 2022. Since then, the networks have been refined to reflect submissions received during that consultation, and further engagement with all stakeholders.

It must be noted that CycleConnects does not give any construction details but sets out where the route proposes to be. Each Active Travel project which emerges from CycleConnects will still need to go through an options selection, preliminary design, planning process and detailed design in order to determine the type of infrastructure to be deployed.

The consultation will remain open until the October 25, 2024. Submissions can be made through the portal, or by email until November 6, 2024 to:
