Brain Awareness Week – 16th March – 22nd March

Age Friendly Ireland | National

Dementia Understand Together

The Dementia: Understand Together campaign, led by the HSE in partnership with The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Age Friendly Ireland, Age & Opportunity, Healthy Ireland, Alone, Engaging Dementia and the Dementia Services Information and Development Centre, is encouraging everyone to make simple changes to help maintain brain health and reduce the risk of developing some types of dementia.

Just as you can look after other areas of your health, you can take steps to keep your brain healthy – and this can reduce the risk of getting dementia or slow down its progress.

Proactive steps people can take include:

•being physically active

•eating a healthy balanced diet

•quitting smoking

•reducing or giving up alcohol

•managing blood pressure

•looking after your hearing and vison

•making time for social connection and interaction.

Adopting these habits in adulthood can play an important part in reducing risk, as well as developing good routines for life.
