There was lots of Christmas Spirit in evidence this week when members of the Community Team in Louth County Council packed and prepared over 300 Christmas bags & cards.

The Christmas bags are packed full of sweets, treats and Christmas goodies for older and vulnerable people across Co Louth.

Members of Louth Older People’s Council (OPC) and community partners including Meals on Wheels, An Garda Síochána, and The Alzheimer Society of Ireland collected the bags and help to distribute them to older and vulnerable people across the county.

Louth Libraries also help distribute the Christmas Bags to users of the Library Housebound Service and to those who attend The Memory Café in Dundalk Library & Drogheda Library.

Age Friendly Louth Programme Manager Sinead McVerry stated “The delivery of the Age Friendly Christmas Bags are an opportunity for an older person to get a card and a present but most importantly it is an opportunity to have someone call to them and check in with them at this time of year. Age Friendly Louth are aware that Christmas can be a difficult time for some older people and in this small way be hope that they feel connected this Christmas.”
