Kilbride Community Centre held a wonderful Age Friendly Halloween Event on Tuesday, 28th October 2025. The venue was a jam packed with more than two hundred older people from all over Roscommon in attendance.
The event was MC’d by Roscommon Older People’s excellent Chairperson, Bernie Kearney. He kicked off proceedings by welcoming everyone and encouraging everyone to visit the many information stands and also the two Croí nurses who were doing free health checks for the entire morning.
He introduced the excellent speakers, they were:-
- Cllr. Liam Callaghan, Cathaoirleach, Roscommon County Council
- Dr. Martin Daly, TD, Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Older People
- Kelly Doolan, Community Guard, Roscommon Gardaí
- Paul Scanlon, Housing Section, Roscommon County Council
- Christine Rohan, PALS Coordinator, Roscommon Hospital

After the speeches the crowd was treated to lively Sean nÓs dancing and storying telling from the very talented Kevin Cunniffe. Music from Kilbride locals, Jimmy Keaveny and Terry McGowan followed this which brought all the dancers at the event onto the floor. Also, during this period there were a number of spot prizes given out, everyone had been given free raffle tickets on arrival.
The day ended with music from Roscommon Older People’s Council member and singer/songwriter, Veronica Barrett accompanied by renowned musician and Roscommon Leader Partnership staff member, Fiona Sirr, this was followed by soup & sandwiches, tea & Halloween brack!
It was a very enjoyable day full of information, nostalgia, laughter and chat. Thanks to Kilbride Community Centre for the use of their excellent venue and for having everything set up for us on the day. A big thank you to everyone who helped out on the day, especially the staff from Roscommon Leader Partnership and Roscommon County Council.
