A group of Achill walkers visited Clare Island on July 10th.  This was an Inter-Island initiative under the Activator Walking Pole Programme which was rolled out on Clare Island earlier this year.  The event (and project) was coordinated by Age Friendly Mayo with Mayo Sports Partnership and funded by the HSE.

The morning involved meet and greet with Achill Island and Clare Island participants and leaders.   A warm-up class was held in the community centre.  It was very informal and enjoyed by all who participated.  This was followed by a walk around the Island with the poles.

On arriving back to the Community Centre walkers were invited to a well-deserved light lunch with tea / coffee. The afternoon ended with a talk on Age Friendly Mayo delivered by Maura Murphy, Age Friendly Programme Manager for Mayo and Edel O’Malley, Physical Activity for Health with MSP.

MSP and Age Friendly Mayo would like to thank all who attended the event.
