The call for submissions to the 2026 National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement awards is now live and the closing date is 5th June 2026.
Age Friendly Ireland is thrilled to announce that we are now open for applications to the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards 2026. Each year a local authority hosts the awards event, and we are excited to reveal that Limerick City and County Council are hosting this year’s event in The Limerick Strand Hotel on Thursday, October 8th, 2026.
This year we have ten categories of awards, aligning to the 8 World Health Organisation (WHO) Age Friendly Themes:

| Age Friendly Environment Award Sponsored by the Centre for Excellence In Universal Design The built environment has a unique impact on the lives of all older people. Simple things like adequate public seating, level footpaths and appropriate crossing times at pedestrian crossings all have a huge impact on the ability of older people to be active in their towns and villages. This award recognises those innovative projects that are driven by older people for older people. | Age Friendly Housing Award Sponsored by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage As people age, they spend more time in their own homes. This means that older people’s quality of life, and thus their health, can depend on the appropriateness of their home environment and the conditions in which they live. Shortlisted projects will be visited by the judging panel over a 3 week period, from July 20th to August 7th inclusive, and invited to Ireland’s Age Friendly Recognition and Achievements Awards ceremony in Limerick in October.
