Introduction to Age Friendly Demonstrators and Initiatives

Age Friendly places, spaces and environments, offer citizens an opportunity to age in place across the life course. To promote and encourage future proofing for ageing, Age Friendly Ireland, in partnership with the World Health Organization, have developed a process whereby organisations and communities can apply for age friendly status once they have completed the four-stage process as outlined below. Underpinned by Universal Design principles, this involves collaboration with multi agency stakeholders and our Older People’s Councils as key advisors and supporters of these initiatives.

We are delighted to acknowledge that many spaces, environments and services that provide essential supports to older people have already undergone this process and received Age Friendly status. Age Friendly Demonstrators for Ireland, in some cases, have also been international firsts and are now being replicated across the country. This method is also being shared internationally as a model of good practice to make the world a better place to age.
