The Limerick Age Friendly Programme Manager, pictured above, is a member of the Limerick Lifelong Learning steering committee and was delighted to attend the launch of the Limerick Life Long learning Festival 2025. This year’s festival was officially launched by the Mayor of Limerick, John Moran on 21st March in Newcastle West Library.

The theme for this year’s festival is “Literacies for Life”. It featured over 120 free events and activities both educational and fun to choose from throughout the week both online and in-person for all ages and abilities.

A knitting group who meet in the library Friday mornings were delighted to participate in the launch and to teach the Mayor a spot of knitting.

On Friday 25th of April, Limerick’s Age Friendly Programme Manager hosted a “Talk on the role of Artificial intelligence in the future for people as they age”. This was ran in conjunction with the Adare branch of Limerick City & County Councils library service. Caroline and Aisling gave a presentation from CramdenTech Ltd followed by a very engaging questions and answers session, followed by a chat and cuppa. This event was fully subscribed & attended by 40 older people from within the local community including the Men’s shed and Active retirement group. Among the attendees was local Author & TikTok star 89 year old Dorothy Teskey. Dorothy is pictured with the Limerick Age Friendly Programme Manager & Older Person’s executive member Mary Dundon, representative from the Adare Rathkeale municipal district.

  • Our Age Friendly Programme Manager as chair of Comhairle na n-nÓg has extended an invite to Alison McCarthy, National activities co-ordinator with the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, to join the Comhairle na nÓg steering group meeting Friday 23rd of May. Alison will give a short presentation to the group on “Creating a Dementia Inclusive Generation- Youth Programme.”
  • Limerick’s Age Friendly programme manager is invited to a symposium hosted by one of our Age Friendly Alliance partners, the University of Limerick. University of Limericks “Age-Inclusive Symposium: From Principles to Practice” scheduled to take place on Friday, 30th May 2025, from 12 noon to 2pm at the School of Medicine, University of Limerick. This symposium is a significant event that underscores UL’s commitment to advancing age-friendly initiatives and fostering an inclusive environment for our ageing population.
  • On Wednesday the 28th of May, there will be a half-day workshop with the Irish Physical Activity Research Collaboration (IPARC) & Limerick Sports partnership (One of our Age friendly Alliance partners). The workshop is being held at Moyross Community Enterprise centre and aims to learn how best to adapt and implement existing evidence-based physical activity programmes to improve their population reach and their effectiveness in the real-world setting. The target group selected for inclusion in the workshop is Older Adults, and the geographical location prioritised is the Northside of Limerick City. This workshop is invite only.
