Killarney Soccer Memories Café Hosts Free Special Sporting Memories Event

Age Friendly Ireland | Local | Kerry

Killarney Soccer Memories Café is set to host a unique Sporting Memories event on Saturday, 28th June bringing together soccer lovers of all ages to relive cherished moments from the sport’s past.

This special gathering, which focuses on all things soccer, is part of the wider Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s Sporting Memories initiative – a programme designed to support people living with dementia and older adults by harnessing the power of sport to spark memories, create connections, and improve overall well-being.

Attendees can look forward to sharing stories, photographs, memorabilia, and laughter in a welcoming and supportive environment. Whether you were on the pitch, on the sidelines, or simply a passionate fan, this event is a chance to reconnect with the joy of the game and the community that surrounds it.

John Don O’ Donoghue, joint organiser of the event, highlighted the importance of initiatives like this:

“Events like these are about far more than sport. They offer people, especially older adults and those living with dementia, a meaningful way to reconnect – not just with their memories, but with each other. We’ve seen first-hand how powerful it can be when someone’s face lights up remembering a match, a goal, or a moment they thought was long forgotten.”

Event Details:
Date: Saturday, 28th June 2025
Time: 11am to 1pm
Location: Clann Housing, Coill na Darrach, Killarney, V93 VXY8

The Killarney Soccer Memories Café welcomes all members of the community to attend and take part. There is no cost associated with the event. The organisers would also encourage guests to bring their own photos, memorabilia, and stories!
