National Advisory Group
The Age Friendly National Advisory Group provides governance, oversight, strategic direction and advice in relation to the overall programme achieving its goals and objectives. They provide guidance and advice where local implementation & best practices can influence national policy on a cross departmental basis and seek to integrate the Programme into existing structures and considering how best to align with other relevant national policies and plans.
The National Advisory Group ensures the Age Friendly Programme achieves its strategic objectives and ensures expenditure is in line with budget.
The members recognise that the National Advisory Group can be used as a vehicle for raising priority issues and proposed solutions that are beyond the scope of local alliances and in this context regular feedback from the National Network of OPC’s, the National Programme Managers and the National NGO Forum is presented to the National Advisory Group for strategic advice.
National Chairs of Alliances
Chaired by Mr Pat Dowling, Chief Executive, Clare County Council, the National Network of local Age Friendly Alliance Chairs comprises all 31
local authority Chief Executives and 6 Independent Chairs.
The group convenes quarterly and provides a forum for key input into the national programmes strategic plan and enables implementation.
Chief Executives of local authorities have played the critical leadership role in enabling the programme to progress and their continued leadership and expertise to the shared services national co-ordination office is critical.
Age Friendly Networks
The following Age Friendly networks meet on a quarterly basis to share information and learnings:
- National Network of Older People’s Councils
- National Network of Age Friendly Programme Managers
- National Network of Age Friendly Housing Technical Advisors
National Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Forum
This group is made up of Chief Executive Officers from each of the major national older people’s charities/organisations across Ireland representing and providing a range of services to older people.
The Age Friendly Ireland NGO Forum was established to explore and implement ways in which NGO organisations and Age Friendly Ireland could work in partnership strategically to strengthen the impact of their respective agendas on the quality of life and well-being of older people across Ireland.
This group meets a minimum of three times per year. A Terms of Reference has been devised.
