Description
we are a voluntary blood bike group who work along side hospitals primary care centre,private collections etc.We have no paid staff on our books we are all volunteers.CCBB was started 6 years ago by a local lad in castleblaney because he saw the need for it as he was nursing his own terminally ill dad.CCBB collect blood samples from local hospitals and deliver to whatever lad it need to go can be Lourdes,Cavan,Navan or a vast number in Dublin.We also collect human breast milk in the only milk bank in Ireland in Enniskillen and deliver to Cavan and Drogheda neo natal unitsfor very ill and prem babies.We collect bloods from doctors patients in primary care units and deliver to the request lab,we also collect blood samples from terminally ill children in their own homes and deliver to labs which saves parents having to take sick child out and maybe other siblings to deliver sample to lab.We hold bucket collections every month in different town with a permit from an garda siochana and this is our main source of income,we recieve some funding from monaghan coco and we applied this year to HSE lottery funded but we were refused even though we same them a vast amount of money as before we started this voluntary group HSE were paying taxis to deliver and collect bloods.We need to replace one of our blood bikes because of high mileage as our volunteers safety is of utmost importance to us at all times.We have a volunteer rota and we operate 24/7 weekends and bank holidays and 7pm tp 7am week days.CCBB moto is to save lives and we would greatly valu and finacial support we can get to continue to do this

We also work closely with elderly cancer patients collecting their blood samples and delivering to Labs.one wee lady said to me recently yous are a life saver for me as my husband is ill in bed and i cant afford to continue to pay a taxis to deliver my bloods i assured her it was a pleasure for us to help her

3 Challenges in Planning / Delivery
- Keeping our fleet upto date as their is high insurance costs
- Getting volunteers every month to collect to keep fuel in our fleet
- Wear and tear on our fleet and also training can use up quite a lot of funding
