Description
During October 2023, Garda Patricia Fitzpatrick of Tralee Community Policing Unit developed the idea of a Halloween Door Hanger to provide a safe and friendly way to inform trick -or -treaters that a household was not participating in Halloween activities.
The initiative aimed to assist vulnerable persons such as , elderly residents, persons with autism or others who may feel somewhat unsafe in their homes during Halloween.
The distribution of the door hangers included engagement with Primary Schools students as well as Sports Clubs and Community Groups.
In total 6,000 door hangers were distributed in the Kerry Division on advance of Halloween.
The initiative created significant positive traction both locally and nationally, featuring on the national print and television media.

- getting the information out to the community about the initiative and distributing the door hangers to , groups , residents , charities etc
- having the door hanger created that it could be used either way to show if the household was participating or not in the Halloween event. This saved all the unnecessary knocking on the doors.
