Description
“Galway County Council to help encourage people to Stay Connected in a safe way during Covid 19 implemented Chat Bench Signage throughout County Galway to help encourage people to chat with one another in a safe environment. Chat Benches originated in the UK after a Detective Sergeant dealt with an elderly woman who had been defrauded of money by a con artist over the phone, and he found that she realized it was a deception but was so lonely and in need of human contact that she went along with the deception. To combat loneliness and isolation, certain benches in communities are designated as “Chat Benches†and remove the awkwardness of engaging a stranger in conversation. ”
