Description
We run a fortnightly social outlet for women in Ballaghaderreen and surrounding areas. This group enables women to share knowledge and learn skills. We undertake projects which are of benefit to the individuals. Our group is a focal point for women to meet and engage in educational, cultural, sporting and social activities. We have covered activities such as pole activator walking, health and well being, arts and crafts, singing – all activities that work towards our mental and physical wellbeing.
We are only a year old and have 30 members and great support from our wider community.
Our current age range are from 50-94 years old.
Aim of Initiative
To provide a supportive environment for like-minded women to meet, make new friends, and connect with others in the community

We aim to combat isolation and loneliness

Who is it aimed at
All women, we accept any women aged 18 or over, but as we meet in the daytime, our membership is currently made up of 50-94 year olds.
3 Steps critical to success
- That we secure a programme of fortnightly activities of benefit to the women attending, without restrictions.
- To be financially self supporting in terms of membership fees. If we are suitable for national grants we will try and claim for the additional support
- To secure the support of the local business to support our group in terms of promotion and marketing.
3 Challenges in Planning / Delivery
- Keeping members interested. We try and ensure we offer a variety of activities without discrimination
- Securing guest speakers or demonstrators within our budget
- Keeping the name and reputation of Ballaghaderreen Women’s Shed high in the local community and surrounding areas.

- Attracting new members with advertising and marketing
- Securing a programme of events till end of early 2025
- Keeping costs at a minimum and creating a stable financial record.
