The colour purple was chosen as was suggested by the worldwide Elder Abuse Awareness information email.
A large Purple Display at the entrance was created with a Large Awareness Purple Heart Poster to inform everyone what to do in doubt etc.
Purple Buns were created and available for everyone displayed on a Purple Stand
Purple velvet broches were made for everyone interested to wear on 15 June .
Photos were taken and shared on the confidential Altra App, a social media platform to inform and invite family and residents about this Awareness Celebration. A coffee/ tea morning followed by a local in house Talent Show with live Music to Celebrate this Special Day.
Photographs and video clips can be provided confidential if required. I would be delighted to send these to you.

Aim of Initiative

To inform and create further awareness of Elder Abuse in a pleasant way to the community, family and residents.

Who is it aimed at

Local community, family members and residents in and around Athlunkard Nursing Home Westbury Co Clare.

3 Steps critical to success

  1. Team work . As all staff were involved and family members to make this day to a success for the residents in a pleasant way.
    Planning
    Creating Buns and Broches.
  2. Creating the Display at the Entrance, organising the Discussion questions.
  3. Enjoying and singing and dancing together in the afternoon.
    Creating an atmosphere of happiness and Joy.

3 Challenges in Planning / Delivery

  1. Where to get materials within our budget.

    Choice of poster design.

  2. How to select appropriate questions for the Discussion Morning.
  3. How to deliver this rather sad Topic of Discussion in a pleasant and joyful way, how to create more awareness in a wider community.

3 Outcomes / Benefits

  1. Further Awareness of Elder Abuse and what to do about it.
  2. People were informed of the availability of a Patient’s Advocate for private confidential conversation at any preferred day to be arranged.
    Information about the monthly residents meeting with the presence of the Patient’s Advocate , usually last Friday morning in the Month.
  3. Photographs and video to watch again and to remember this special Day together.
