Roscommon Launch their County Age Friendly Strategy 2016-2020
The County Roscommon Age Friendly Strategy 2016- 2020 is an initiative designed to develop our county as a place where older people are valued and respected. Th Age Friendly strategy is being implemented by the Roscommon Age Friendly Alliance. This Alliance is an inter-agency group, led by Roscommon County Council and is part of a national Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme spear headed by Age Friendly Ireland.
The Roscommon Age Friendly Strategy outlines a plan to improve the lives of all people in County Roscommon as they age and to create a county where future generations can reach old age feeling healthier, more positive and more engaged. The aim is to make Roscommon an Age Friendly County with all agencies working together to promote and maintain the best possible health and well-being of older people, and to make our County a great place to grow up and grow old in.
The strategy will be overseen by the County Roscommon Age Friendly Alliance Group, which is chaired by Mr. Eugene Cummins, Chief Executive of Roscommon County Council and will be implemented by the Age Friendly Working Group. Whilst Roscommon County Council has taken the leadership role in the development of this strategy, this is very much a multi-agency approach, with older people at the core, in recognition that no one group is able to respond to the challenges and opportunities that our changing demographic presents. The Roscommon Age Friendly Strategy and Action Plan has been developed through extensive consultation with older people and the organisations working with them. It presents our collective vision and goals for what an Age Friendly Roscommon will be.
The County Roscommon Age Friendly Strategy 2015 – 2020 will be available from Monday 7th December 2015 on http://www.roscommoncoco.ie or by contacting the Social Inclusion Unit, Roscommon County Council at (090) 66 37359 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
